The Pentax K200D produces images of excellent quality, with noise-free images at ISO 100 all the way up to ISO 800, very little purple-fringing, accurate colors and a useful built-in flash and Bulb exposure mode. Only the noise levels at ISO 1600 and the lack of a faster 3200 setting mark the K200D out as an entry-level model. ..."

Review (Summary): "The latest entry level model from Pentax is the K200D, replacing last years K100D Super. Rather than being a complete new camera the K200D is more an upgrade, but is not without some interesting and very useful features. Not least amongst these is the weatherproof body with image stabilization built-in. Featuring some of the technology from the recent K20D, Pentax has brought its entry-level range bang up to date to compete with some of its more popular rivals. ...

... The K200D produces nice punchy images with good exposure and pleasing results. I‘d say the K200D achieves brighter images than those of the K20D, struggling only with pictures with lots of sky, or tricky subjects, such as dominant highlights or shadows. ..."

... For the same money or a little less you could buy a lighter DSLR with Live View facilities and either a flip-out screen or faster continuous shooting. Or you could ignore the gadgetry, go for the K200D and enjoy superior build quality with weatherproofing along with a few fairly unique features like a top info screen, RAW button and AA battery power. ..."

Review (Summary): "In the last three years, there have been a slew of advances in the realm of digital SLRs, and Pentax's K200D includes a lot of them. We've seen the megapixels grow to the point that entry-level models now sport 10MP sensors. Advanced color controls let you shift the white balance to add a little warmth or compensate for especially strange lighting. ...

Images are pleasingly sharp and retain a lot of detail even at the camera's highest sensitivity setting of ISO 1,600. I would've liked to see Pentax include ISO 3,200, but most of their competitors don't either and it's nice to be able to shoot at any of the camera's ISO setting and know that you'll get an acceptable print. ..."
